Educational Measurement and Statistics

Educational Measurement and Statistics

Measurement and Statistics in Education is a field of study that collects and analyzes quantitative data to draw conclusions to establish theories in behavioral science including education. Also, this field does not merely focus on the application of measurement and statistical methods, but it also develops new statistical methods. Measurement in Education deals with issues such as developing assessments to measure specific constructs, validating the assessments, equalizing the assessment scores, or examining the rater effects. In Educational Statistics, analysis of the measured data is conducted specifically for the purpose of research, and issues such as verification of the theoretical model, estimation of change, analysis of complex sampling data, and categorization of similar groups are addressed. When developing a new theory of measurement and statistics, advanced theories of measurement will be studied. Moreover, simulation methods, which produce and evaluate random data based on specific conditions, will be applied. In Measurement and Statistics in Education, the focus is not only on gaining knowledge for measurement, but also on enhancing the logical thinking that researchers need.
