Welcome to the Department of Education at Korea University

The Department of Education at Korea University has experienced steady growth and development over the past 60 years since its establishment in 1960. It has maintained a position within the top 50 in the global rankings of education departments by the Times Higher Education (THE) since 2020. Recognized as a global leader, the department has been selected as the only education department in Korea for the World Class University (WCU) project by the Ministry of Education from 2009 to 2013. It has also been consistently chosen for the BK21 and BK21+ projects aimed at fostering excellent scholars and researchers.

The department actively contributes to both domestic and international education policies as it is selected for three key policy-focused research center projects in higher education, educational psychology, and human resource development. Through large-scale research projects such as the Social Science Korea (SSK) support project in the field of educational sociology, the department continuously proves its status as one of the top departments in Korea.

As of 2023, the department has 254 undergraduate students and 309 graduate students. Approximately 2,600 alumni are actively participating in various fields including education, academia, government, industry, media, etc., embodying the spirit of education for freedom, justice, and truth. The diverse career paths of the graduates are attributed to the interdisciplinary nature of educational studies. The Department of Education at Korea University is committed to actively supporting its students and alumni in becoming dignified leaders who embrace a global vision and pioneer the future, not only in the field of school education but also in broader educational domains.
